Happy New Year! Who’s detoxing

Hi everyone!  Welcome to 2016!!

I was fortunate enough to spend some time off in Dominican Republic for a few days:

Nothing like a healthy shot of vitamin D in December.

Back to the grind in NYC! Gyms are packed, people are juice cleansing and sweating out the festivities of the holidays.  I myself am experimenting with a break from meat, alcohol and caffeine for 30 days.

If you are planning on doing a detox, I’d suggest to keep it simple.  Pick three things max to add or subtract.  As Charles Duhigg explains in his book, The Power of Habit, humans’ lives are entirely a series of habits, including the way we think think and emote.  Changing habits requires conscious willpower.  We have a certain amount, and that reservoir is typically depleted as the day goes on (it’s no coincidence we drink at night, snack on ice cream or mindlessly shop online as the day wraps up).

It is the same concept when looking at will power from the macro level.  We can build and strengthen our reserves, however it doesn’t appear over night.  I knew it would be delusional to also impose strict bedtimes or intermittent fasting as I originally intended.  I’d be operating on empty tanks and the whole thing would implode.

I used to think moderation was key, but I know some people (myself) do not operate that way.  So, 24.5 days until:
